Speed Density

Speed density is a tuning methodology where fuel and/or timing is determined by the speed (RPM) of the engine and the density (bar, psia, etc) of the intake air.

Many aftermarket standalone or piggyback systems use a speed density system, as well as older cars. However, most modern factory vehicles use mass air flow systems.

Disadvantages

Speed density requires tuning many maps for consistent results, such as air temperature compensation and engine volumetric efficiency. Manifold pressure sensors do not react quickly to rapid changes in pressure.
